So, I managed to finish up my season 21 Five in time for my friend's 25th Birthday Party. The party was a great time, and I'll post a much longer breakdown of finishing my costume shortly, along with more pics from the party.

(And I only noticed later that I had forgotten to pull out my shirt lapels for this picture.)

[x-posted to my personal journal]

Hello everyone,

Some of you might remember me from when I posted recently asking for advice on making a Chancellery Guard for my Gallifreyan Rollergirl costume. Anyway, I didn't have time to get the helmet made for TimeGate this past weekend, but I do have some photos of the rest of my costume, as well one of my femme!Eleven costume.

Hi everyone! I need a summer companion costume for this coming August so I've settled on Turlough's "Planet of Fire" outfit. It's by far the least amount of clothes that any of the male companions wore in the show, and since I'll be wearing it here on the beach at the height of summer, it seemed apropos.

I don't have the DVD, so I've been working from bad YouTube clips of the episode. There is one particularly fun YouTube video -- called "Planet of Shorts" -- which is a quick compilation of all the short shorts costumes from this episode: http://youtu.be/xUKs1Ouee2w

Turlough's Planet of Fire costume

Questions I have about this outfit:
1. What kind of shirt is that? I've never seen anything quite like it before (or since!).
2. Can anyone identify his shoes or socks?
3. In the shots where you can see his speedo up close (primarily in the TARDIS bedroom after he's just rescued Peri), the speedo looks like it's a two-tone horizontal blue stripe. But I'm not sure if that's just artifacts on the compressed video I've been looking at.

I'd appreciate any help in clearing up these details. Thanks!

Hi, everybody!
It's my first post here. My name is Polina and I'am from Russia. We have here a big problems with cosplays from TV shows, movies, so I decided to stretch nevertheless a ray of light in this.
My growth of 170 cm and not such as at Karen (she has 180 cm height - please, correct me, if I mistake), but I have an open zone of growth and my attending physician told that to my 30 years I should be 180-181 cm of height.
I have a birthmark on the right cheek which I will delete in the autumn as it seems to me doesn't make up my face.
Many people say that I have a similarity to Karen Gillan, but no so accurate, as I would like. But I think in few years I will be look alike of Karen, such as stuning Rebecca :)
Now I prepare for our convention - EveryCon, which will be on 8th of September in Moscow.

Hello, everyone! First-time poster, long time lurker here, and this is my slightly-delayed, and kind-of lengthy, post Phoenix ComiCon write-up with a lot of pictures borrowed from my friends:

As for my costumes? Well...
Thursday & Friday:

Saturday:

& Sunday:

I ended up doing five costumes this year, which is more than I think I've ever done for a con before. Even though I have plenty of pictures of me dressed up as Mad Mod, (Impromptu) BBC Moriarty, and a Steampunk crossplay of Clyde Barrow, I'll be focusing on the DW related stuff. First off, I had an absolute blast going around as the Eleventh Inspector. Although, I think more vendors and guest got where it was from than attendees. Oh well, I don't think I'll ever tire of saying in an absolutely terrible "British" accent, "The question isn't where, Constable, but when." Additionally, I probably won't do this particular costume for Amy again. It was a lot of hassle, and it basically will need to be redone if I ever want to get into myself without having assistance. The armor's also slightly too large on one side, but that's a whole other story.

Before I go on, I should mention that this was also my mom's first con. I might have convinced her to cosplay as Sarah Jane:

A highlight was that the TARDIS bike made a return this year. My jealousy did as well.

The Staff badges I was equally envious of:

In hindsight, I probably told a few too many vendors to, "Shut up and take my money" this year. I blame such fantastic items as these:

In addition to the K-9 above, there was a custom-built Dalek and a TARDIS that became de-facto photo spot for Doctor Who Cosplayers.

I might've had a little bit more fun with the TARDIS than was warranted:

Although the TARDIS and Dalek weren't always were group shots ending up taking place. We did have a few impromptu group photos elsewhere:

Walking around though, you could still run into quite a lot of Doctor Who cosplayers:

There were a lot of fourth doctor cosplayers this year, including my friends Robert and Taylor (his girlfriend) who were being way too adorable:

I ran into a couple of weeping angels:

...and acouple Doctor Whooves cosplayers as well:

My friend Dennis apparently got put on TARDIS watching duty for my other friend, Josh while he was in a panel.

On Friday night, one of the local comic book shops organize an event called "Party Like A Timelord". This was the line to get in:

The line continued on until it wrapped around the corner, and it almost wrapped around another side. Needless to say, the room was packed full of Whovians:

They had a photo-op area set off to the side where I ended up getting a pretty sweet photo with a couple of new friends who were cosplaying as The Master, The Ninth Doctor, and a Cyberman... er, girl.

Throughout the night, they had a costume contest there for the people dressed up as the various regenerations and variations of The Doctor (they were scheduled to have a companion contest as well, but I don't know what happened with that. My guess is that they were ironically limited by time restraints.) The winner was Lego!Ten:

I'm probably really biased about this, but I thought my friend Buddy should've won the Doctor costume contest. Eh, he might have been a wee bit too risque:

There probably would have been more people in attendance, but I think a lot of con-going Whovians were put off by the line. It was still oodles of fun, and I hope they bring it back next year. The general reaction to the party was highly positive, after all.

Some other, and random highlights are that there were also my awkward and feeble attempts at making "Hipster Amy" into a meme:

And a few Superwholock group shots that were thrown together:

I have a lot more photos than this, but the rest of them mainly revolve around Avengers and Supernatural silliness. They're mostly on my Flickr  account anyways. As you can tell, the Doctor Who fandom here is growing exponentially. Hopefully my friends and I will have a local Doctor Who charity costuming group akin to the Arizona Avengers, 501st, and /or Browncoats together by this time next year.
I had a really amazing time this year. Phoenix ComiCon is one of my favourite cons to go to, and it just gets better and larger every time I go. It seems that this year, the Whovians were out in full-force. I would sincerely recommend this con to anyone who might be in the area next memorial day weekend. You won't regret it.

Here’s some photos of my Fifth Doctor cosplay that debuted at Anime North 2012. I wore this only on Friday for my Doctor Who photoshoot and it was a hit with everyone! I met a ton of Ten cosplayers that night after the ‘shoot, and we kept having fun Time Crash shenanigans with each visit.

Eleven seems to approve photo-bombing himself (twice!)

Thanks to the wonderful Makeup tutorials by [info]apartnerincrime and [info]i_amthebadwolf I have worked out my makeup for Supanova in Sydney here in 3 weeks time for my Runaway Bride Cosplay, I invested in Estee Lauder foundation and eye liner, Revlon brushes and got my bronzer for like $6 from a cheap shop. My eye shadow is Australis, and I used Maybelline 'Falsies' mascara. So here's a pic (it's from my webcam, so sorry if it's a bit dull, my camera's batteries are dead) and tell me what you think!

I posted a while ago about an email conversation I had with Louise Page (costume designer for series 2,3 and 4)

We have been emailing back and forth a lot so I thought I would post my findings here. I will be updating my breakdown shortly.

Dear Jessica
An e mail has been passed to me by ------------------------- who received your e mail regarding Rose's Costumes on Doctor Who. (and yes you are right - they are not the correct department!!!)
I was the Costume Designer on series 2/3/4 of Doctor Who and will try and answer some of your questions but I do not have the files to hand . I assume you are doing this for Cosplay? You may well find that if you contact the cosplay community they may have their own guesses worked out!!! Unless of course you are doing this on behalf of them.
Series 2 & 4 boots:  in Age of Steel/Fear her/ The End of Time: if they are long black boots with elastic down the sides they are from Hobbs. The Series 2 ones are slightly different from series 4 which are not black but very dark conker brown but are all Hobbs. The Looser boots by the way worn in series 2 were Frys
Shoes in Series 1 eps were different and not documented and died a long time ago.
Jeans/Trousers: All series 1 jeans and trousers were only worn in series 1 and I can't  help you with  exact brands butI know there were a selection of baggy worker jeans from Oasis mainly purchased in 2004.
Jeans/Trousers: The End of Time: Black stretch Bootcut Trousers from Top Shop own brand.
Rose's blue jeans were J brand in series 4
and Rock & Republic & 7 for all Mankind  in series 2.
Top from Doomsday Beach Scene: The leather jacket was Firetrap but I'm afraid I cannot remember the brand of t shirt but it was definately NOT a vest!
I can't help you with the undershirt from Boomtown
The bedding isn't my department and I doubt anyone from the art dept would remember as most of the people that worked on Rose have now left and the bedding long gone!
The ribbon sweatshirt from Christmas Invasion was from Urban outfitters as was the button vest. The sweatshirt label was "Tree People" and the button vests had 2 differentlabels. 1 was listed at Bonhams in the sale as "Miss Milne" and the other as "M" more than that I can't tell you.
The pj bottoms - if you mean the shorts that were worn with a stripey vest form series 1 there were M & S - Relax at Home.
I hope this helps in your search. Most of this stuff was bought 6 years ago and to be honest even then I bought most of what was left in the shop. So unless you come across something on ebay...... good luck.
All the best

I wanted to ask you about the Fear Her shoes. You mentioned black hobbs boots but the one she wears are a light brown. I have attached a picture because I know half of it must run together now. it has been a long time!
They are Frye vintage boots in light tan that we picked up in a vintage shop.
I had a few more things that if you have time to answer or remember I would be very grateful! Well, me and my group of about 17 Rose collectors that are asking me to ask you things =)
Are the Apron from Age of Steel and Lab Coat from Army of Ghosts from Alexandra?
Yes
Did you also do the jewelry for Rose? If so, do you remember any of it? My friends are specifically asking about Idiots Lantern sunglasses, earrings and ring but I would love to know anything you remember.
Yes. Every character was costumed and shopped for by me and that includes all the jewellery/accessories/glasses too.
The glasses were actually vintage ones hired for the episode.
The ring and earrings I remember standing at the counter buying in a local store near to where I live. The ring and brooch were from quite an expensive brand, the brooch is made fom mother of pearl, but to be honest I can't remember who as they were limited pieces and they weren't a company I'd used before. The earrings were from the same shop but a different brand but I really don't know whose, and actually we wouldn't have even noted the make in the continuity file as the girls tended to write descriptions but not jewellery labels. The only way I would know is if the brand was on the receipt which is unlikely and all copies of receipts are archived now, or if I happened to be in the shop again and they still carry that accessory line although I know that I bought the only 2 brooches that they had.  Sorry!
Was she also wearing the brown hobbs boots in Girl in the Fireplace?
No! she was wearing tan Frye boots but these may have been the new ones we bought , not the vintage pair. If you look at a picture you will see they have a cuban heel.
Take a look at The Frye Boot Company website, they don't tend to change their classic ranges too much.
The blue Per Una Sue shirt that Rose wears when coming back from Pete's World in season 2, I have been led to believe that this brand only lasted about 4 months before shutting down production due to poor sales, is this true?
Per Una is a concession in Marks and Spencer and all their items are done in limited runs and for a short season. The stock turnover is about 4-6 weeks so if you see something and don't buy it, it is pretty safe to say that it won't be there in a months time. That would be the only reason why I would put Rose in an item from there, because it wouldn't be readily available on the high street or recognisable as marks and spencer!
Do you remember if the Doomsday beach scene shirt had any designs on it or if it was just plain?
I can't remember but I would say it was definately plain as I have no memory of a patterned top that colour and also I have a feeling it may have been long sleeved as we wouldn't have put a short sleeved top on Billie for the Beach. It may have been a basic top shop long sleeved top with a couple of buttons at the neck and v necked but without the file I can't tell you.
I have also wondered just out of curiosity, did you have to alter the maid outfit from Age of Steel? That thing looks like a big potato sack but fit her so beautifully!
Absolutely! It was altered from the smallest one they sell and half the length was taken off!
I wanted to complement you one more time by saying, you did an amazing job if years later people are still drooling over the clothes you picked! I just love how half of this stuff is almost color changing. In one light it looks one color and in another its got a hint of another color! Although we do like to joke that the jacket from Satan Pit will be the death of us all with how small it runs!
Thank you very much for your nice comments, it's nice to know all those hours of shopping have been appreciated although if I'd known I was going to get so many questions about Rose I would have photocopied her notes from the files before I left!
The Satan Pit jacket  is a fuschia pink diesel jacket. The reason it turns purple in The Tardis scenes is because we have different directors of photography on different episodes and the one on The Satan Pit used different lighting to the others and consequently without my knowledge it changed Rose's jacket colour every time she went in The Tardis. As you can imagine I don't stand by the monitors all day as I usually establish an outfit and am then out shopping and fitting for another episode and none of my staff picked up on the change, which to be fair to them may have been because it only happened in the post production where the dop was interested in grading the ep. and didn't notice the jacket changed. I have to say I was not too pleased when I saw the ep. as it looks like she keeps changing jackets because the difference in colour is so great but it is a filtered light that has done it not our washing powder! If you watch The Titanic episode, Morvin & Foon have purple costumes which were made, and were specifically designed to be purple! but again due to lighting, in some shots they look royal blue. On this occassion I did notice on the monitor and pointed it out but because it takes hours to light it, they weren't prepared to spend time changing it and they just made a few adjustments for me. Sometimes it can be very frustrating if something is not the colour you selected it to be!

What you mentioned about the color changing is very interesting. For a very long time everyone thought that the school reunion shirt (pirates arr cool) was green until they saw the auction for it in pink.
This wasn't a filming thing. The reason they may think the Rose Tops are different colours is because some of the items she posed for in photoshoots were used for book jackets and other merchandise and because they were short of time in the photoshoot they didn't get as many stills in different outfits as they would like and so BBC Worldwide changed the colour of her tops in photoshop  so all the book covers weren't the same. Nothing to do with me! But that T shirt was one of the main items they colour altered for pics.
Someone in the cosplay community told me that info about per una due. They say the weirdest things! One girl tried to tell everyone that you had bought a grey shirt and cut the arms out yourself for her series 1 mambo top. You didnt even do series 1 and I have the mambo top so I know its a real thing!
No Lucinda Wright did series 1.
One last question because I have taken up WAY too much of your time and you have been so amazing to answer all of this. Her Oasis jacket in season 4, the rumor is that you had to basically search all of europe just to find two....is this true or just another cosplay rumor?
Yes - the purple jacket was a nightmare. I bought the last one in Oasis Selfridges concession and then searched high and low trying to get a second one from Oasis but they'd all sold out as they never had many in the first place. Oasis  tracked one down for me that was a return although the wrong size to use as a stunt double.

Hey guys!

I'm going to be cosplaying Madame Kovarian at this years San Diego Comic Con. Now, I know it would be easy just to wear a black skirt suit and eye drive, and call it a day, but I thought I would reach out to the cosplay community to see if I could find anything a little closer to the actual suit she wears.

In case anyone can't remember what Kovarian wears: Link

Now, I doubt I'm going to get the print, or anything even remotely close - it appears to be a shiny, black on black houndstooth. But I'd like to be able to find a suit that has a few of the elements of Kovarian's outfit - either the shininess of the fabric (I hate satin, though), a textured black-on-black print, the military details, etc.

Anyone have any ideas?

Also, does anyone happen to have a screencap in which we can see her shoes? I'm assuming they're black heels, but I want to be sure.

Thanks so much!

Hi guys X)
A while ago (March) I ordered myself the topshop jeans from eBay. They hadn't arrived in the post ever so eventually the person who sent them refunded me. They're in customs somewhere and I'll doubt I'll get them at all now. So just a question, does anyone know if there is ANYWHERE I can get a pair of size 8 zip biker jeans in brown??? Thanks :)
